"The best way to empower workers is to have a strong job market. As Labor Commissioner, I’m fighting every day to make North Carolina a magnet for good paying jobs."
- Luke Farley
N.C. Labor Commissioner
Luke Farley currently serves as North Carolina’s 20th Commissioner of Labor, sworn into office on January 2, 2025. At thirty-nine, he is the youngest Labor Commissioner elected in over a century and brings a fresh, energetic vision to the role. As Labor Commissioner, Luke is delivering on his promise to make North Carolina the safest place to work and the best place to do business — a state where both workers and businesses can thrive.
Since taking office, Commissioner Farley has worked tirelessly to protect North Carolina’s workforce by addressing critical challenges like the labor inspector shortage, ensuring safe workplaces, and promoting economic growth. He’s focused on filling vacancies in the Department of Labor, strengthening worker protections, and fostering a culture of safety through education and collaboration with businesses and workers.
Luke brings over fourteen years of experience as a workplace safety attorney to his role, where he spent his career on the front lines advocating for safer work environments and helping businesses navigate complex regulations. His common-sense approach ensures that North Carolina’s labor laws are enforced fairly and efficiently, with an emphasis on solutions that are tailored to the unique needs of our state.
Raised in Onslow County, Luke learned the value of hard work early on, whether it was mowing lawns, cleaning rental properties, or working retail jobs. Today, he lives in Raleigh with his wife of over a decade and their three young sons. As a husband, father, and Christian, Luke is deeply committed to building a strong, prosperous future for all North Carolinians.
Under his leadership, the Department of Labor is becoming a key driver of economic development by creating safer, healthier workplaces and positioning North Carolina as a magnet for good-paying jobs. Luke believes that when workers are safe, businesses grow, families prosper, and communities thrive.
With a vision rooted in faith, family, and a love for North Carolina, Commissioner Luke Farley is working every day to safeguard the lives and livelihoods of the people who make this state great.
